I was listening to some music and the tunes didn't sound right. Tried a number of other songs and kept noticing that things weren't right. I played with Wave balance slider and Master volume slider, both slightly to the left and it seemed to make the music more balanced and listenable. Before it seemed that in some songs, the lead singer was in a tunnel! Anybody know why this may occur? I even downloaded a new driver for the music card (built in to the board).
Thanks :)

Awhile ago I asked for help in identifying wood used to build some furniture in my son's and DIL's house (
http://www.bt3central.com/showthread.php?t=51211) and, based on the responses, we settled on alder that would be stained with Minwax "Colonial Maple" stain. I also posted an early progress report (http://www.bt3central.com/showthread.php?t=51595).

Well, its finally done, except for a foam cushion for the top, which has been ordered. Pictures are attached. Except for the plywood, the chest is built entirely out of alder, with the individual boards splined together, side by side. Inside finish is two coats of SealCoat followed by two coats of gloss polyurethane. The outside is finished as:

1. two coats of stain conditioner,
2. two coats of colonial maple stain, allow to set for at least 48 hours.
3. two coats of polyurethane (satin finish) diluted about 40% with mineral spirits, wiped on, 24 hours between coats,
4. two coats of undiluted polyurethane, brushed on, at least 24 hours between coats.

Since I don't have access to spraying equipment, the final coats were applied with each surface horizontal to reduce running and pooling of the polyurethane. This produced a very smooth, flat finish without runs or drips (unusual for me).

I was a little apprehensive about the stain color, but it turned out, IMO, better than I had expected and I am pleased with the choice of alder.

Thanks for looking, regards, Steve.

There have been a couple of calls lately for more discussions about woodworking. I heartily agree, so I thought I'd chime in with this.

I'm finishing up a jewelry chest, made of cherry and maple with bubinga (or is it cocobolo?) drawer pulls. The end product is very much less than I had imagined, but here it is.

Attachment 16026

Here's the purpose of this post. I struggled with how to do the pullls. The top and base are beveled so I didn't want to do curved pulls. I finally settled on these, as seen from the side.

Attachment 16027

They're fit into 1/8" mortises, as you'd expect. I ran a v-groove bit accross both top and bottom to give the fingers a little purchase. Resetting the fence, I used the same v-groove bit to bevel the fronts ever so slightly. They're kind of a pain to sand and finish, but I like 'em and hope they get the creative juices flowing for someone else.

The weekend before school started (Aug. 14, to be exact) I went to get a haircut so I looked all nice a teacher-like for school. The haircut lady mentioned something about the birthmark on my head. I've NEVER had a birthmark on my head, so we got a couple of mirrors out and I took a look. It was a large, irregular, spot ranging in color from dark red to a purplish-brown. I thought to myself, "That doesn't look like a birthmark, that looks like melanoma." The next week I went to see a dermatologist. She took a plug biopsy and measured the spot at 2.5 cm in diameter. I told her I knew she couldn't answer definitively with out the pathology report, so I asked her what her gut said. She looked me in the eye and said, "Oh, it's melanoma. I'm so sorry."

Fast forward to this past Monday, when she called me with the lab results. She told me the labs were inconclusive, and wanted me to see an associate, a dermatologic surgeon. Yesterday I went to see the surgeon and her two munchkins (dermatology residents; both female—is every dermatologist a woman?), who promptly took out the whole spot and sent it off to the lab.

Again I asked what her gut said, and she said, "I'm 99% sure it's melanoma. I'd bet money on it."

Right now I'm sitting at home with a 3.5 cm open wound in my head. She didn't want to sew me up until the path report came back, in case she and the munchkins have to biopsy a sentinel node. So, I get to spend the next week with a gaping hole in my head (LOML says I've always needed my head examined) waiting for another pathology report.

What happens next depends on how deep the melanoma is. If it's superficial, the munchkins will sew up the hole and I'll be monitored for the rest of my life. If the melanoma got deep enough, it's more surgery and chemo. Right now I have about a half mile of gauze wrapping my head—I look like a crazed knight from Holy Grail!

I'll probably stay home tomorrow, too. I'm not in much pain, but I'm pretty tired. I really need to get back in the classroom; teaching gives me energy and lets me concentrate on something else.

I'm not asking for sympathy—I just wanted to give the news to my BT3 buds. I have a good attitude and I refuse to worry until I have something definite to worry about. Even if the news is really bad, my conscience is clear.

Thanks for reading!

My table saw seemed out of alignment. I got out my Master plate and dial from front of the blade to back of the blade is off by .01. The manual states: Loosen the trunnion bolts shown in Figure 57. Under Figure 57 it indicates 6 bolts but it also says “not all the trunnion bolts are shown”).

Does anyone know how many trunnion bolts this saw has? I can only locate 6. I loosened the bolts. With the bolts lose I was able to adjust the trunnion assembly get the measurement down to .03 but that’s all. I’m very frustrated with this, can anyone help. I’m trying to contact Grizzly but their tech support doesn’t have a 1-800 number and I don’t have long distance so I’m in the process of email them.

Can anyone with this saw help me out?
Thanks

It's interesting to see how much our plans change from start to finish. I originally wanted to build this:
but after realizing my size constraints and current shop conditions, I ended up with this :eek::eek:

I know, its a stud wall.... The planned item was really cool, but I didn't have the height for it nor could I figure an easy way of installing casters and still keep in under 100.5".

I have come to the conclusion that waiting to build the ideal shop means basically for me not building at all! I will just have to start making do, no move everything out into a pod, epoxying the floors, etc. LOL Hopefully by organizing the shop with a dedicated sheet good storage and then lumber rack, I will find enough floor space to perhaps renovate the rest of the wreck!

I keep almost every thing, my wife calls me Fred Sanford. We bought this TV in 1985 and carried it with us until it went out about 9 years ago. So to the basement it went. I had the router on my BT3000 but wanted it in its own cabinet. I had forgot about it. I was looking at the other end of the basement for some scrap wood for another project, and there it set behind some old doors. Out of the blue it came to me. Here is what i came up with.
Hope you like it.
Thank You All For Looking 4est
