    Spammers birthdays?

    What the heck?

Have a lot of weird names, mostly have their 26th birthday? Something weird going on, or what was the big event 26 years and 9 months ago?

Looks like someone has found a backdoor into this software. I am sending a note to Marc and to Sam.

Not neccesarily a backdoor, just browsing them thus far, and the ones I have seen so far were all registered on September 22 and September 23... It looks like a SPAMMER was manually setting up a mess of accounts...

Sadly, I don't have access in that deep to do anything about these new accounts... Sending message to Sam and Mark...

This is why you have to manually type in numbers and letters that you see on some forums to get registered.
I doubt this was done manually. More than likely had a program or macro to do it.
The Typing style anti spam feature is okay as well as the need for a valid email so that a membership is activated are two things that would deter this in the future.
Does this software possess those type features that can be activated?

The spam artists broke Captcha a while back. It still helps though. All those today are probably not manually done.

I inplimented a couple unique questions on a Board I maintain for our dart association. That cut down on registered spammers by at least 95%. The few that get through that and the email confirmation get manually approved. A check of their email address or username at www.stopforumspam.com usually cuts out the remaining rifraff.

And here I was thinking it was because so many people do the horizontal tango
around the Christmas/New Years holidays and Oct is the 9th month.

I purged them all and banned the IP addresses used to create them. They still show up in the birthday list right now, but I am working on cleaning that up as well.

I have hours upon hours banning spammer accounts and deleting those of obvious spammers. Our required moderation and the other human verification steps in the registration process makes it less likely one will get through and spam a post. Thanks to Sam for his quick action today!

I believe October 5 is the most popular birthday, or heard that last week.

I don't know if this is connected, but, I just got half a dozen emails, on posts that were made in the last couple of weeks. They included a birthday message to me on 10/9 for my 10/5 birthday.
