    Nice Crotch Pictures

I hope you weren't expecting something else......

I took a run out to our local mill today. Like always, I go for a stroll through the barns.....just in case. In a dimly lit corner, I found these slabs against a wall. I thought about "adopting" one or two but it would have been counter productive to the budget for this month. Perhaps I'll go back next month?

BTW: They were all bigger than me!

That's got to be per board. Looks like 2" thick. 24-36" wide and 62 1/2" long. If you assume an average width of 30", then that's about 26bf or about $7.69/bf which is what I would pay retail down here for regular walnut boards. My supplier charges $12/bf for crotch walnut up to 8/4 so that would be a bargain down here.

I just paid $5.90/bf for some walnut last week, guess I got a good deal. It was nice quality wood too. Rockler had a special for $6/bf a month or two ago but their normal price is about $9. It was decent wood but not as nice as what I just got from the other source.

If anyone's in the Twin Cities/western WI area PM me and I'll give you the source. I only paid $1.90/bft for black ash which was really nice looking, clear wood as well. He called it "Select" grade but looked like FAS to me. Lower grades were even cheaper.
