    Third World Lumber Mill

The subtitle would be "When you have 14 arms available, who needs push sticks."
Yea, I caught my breath at the kick back.

Did anyone else notice there's no fence?

Once upon a time our recent ancestors probably used saws just like that.

Somewhere I saw a video of a craftsman in the middle east making small wooden toys on a powered 14" circular saw with no table, no fence and no guard. Kinda like the bandsaw demos at woodworking shows, but with a different kind of saw. Not me boss!

Wow! When I saw the guy wacking in the wedge, I thought "now there's 1 good thing that they've done." I was waiting for kickback to knock someone on their butt, but there must have been too much slippage in the belt and the log must have been too heavy for the motor.

I agree that log is too heavy to be kicked back (much). Seems to me it would be easier and about as cheap to rig up a bandsaw, i.e., a conventional sawmill, for resawing. Certainly would be easier to push a log through.

If you ever saw the movie "Walk the Line" you get a picture of sawing in the old days without safety equipment. It's not pretty.

                        [\QUOTE]

I think there is a fence. After the kick back, you can see one guy toss aside
a piece of wood with a lot of bark on it. Then he or someone else adjust
something on the table and lock it down before they start to run it through
again. I think that's the fence.

I wouldn't want to be around when they cut the last board, though.

                        Scary stuff.
