Interesting, that may be a local preference, or maybe just the folks you have discussed it with.

The concern I have with posting a phone number is that it allows people to get your name and address.

I prefer the relative safety of the CL email system and don't respond to ads that insist that the prospective buyer call. If we can't set it up by email, I'm not willing to take the risk.

It could also be an age-related thing - younger people and tech folks do nearly everything now by email and text, while older people may prefer the technology they grew up with, such as the telephone.

I guess the apparent conclusion is there is no general agreement on the best approach, even within a local area, and different approaches will likely reach different groups of buyers.

I give most things to Goodwill and it adds to my itemized deductions. LOML has some things she wants to sell and is starting with the bulletin board at work. Neither one of us wants to deal with responders through Craigslist. If we do not get the items sold through work, we will have to decide your next best path. She will also donate other items. If you do not itemize, there is no monetary payoff for donations. But if you do, you get to shield a little of your income from taxes.

A few time because of the item and price, I have had the buyer or seller meet me a the local Police Station Parking lot. I just give them the address, it is a few blocks from my house and get there early and sit a watch. A couple of times I have seen them drive by slowly and keep going or drive into the parking lot and leave. We have had a lot of trouble with scams and robberies from items on Craigslist. If it is out of my area then I use a CHP office parking lot. I just give the address nothing more and my pay as you go cell phone #, not my ATT cell phone. The thing is they never contact me later asking where I was or saying I gave them the wrong address.

The only items that I have put on CL have been higher value items such as boats, boat motors, jet ski's, trailers, cars and trucks, worth more money than I want to donate. Lower value items are donated or sold at yard sale. I've heard that if you really want to get flooded with calls, crank and legit, just post a firearm, calls will be coming from all over the country.
