    compare blades

Nifty s/w for a forum. Seems to be used by a number of places.
    Anyway guess things work.

    compare blades

Those of you wanting to know whether the cost of the Forrest WWII blade is warranted,
check the build quality of the WWII vs an Irwin Marathon blade I picked up for $20 recently.

note particularly the amount of carbide used in the Forrest blade vs. the amount of carbide used in the Irwin.

    P.S.
Thom asked me to compare the WWII with the Ryobi/Freud OEM blade that comes with the BT3x:

The Freud's carbide is bigger than the Irwin but not as big as the Forrest. But the blade does have the laser-cut reliefs that the el-cheapo blade does not have.

Both the Freud and the Forrest have a machined look and the Irwin looks more stamped.

Hardly any comparison at all. Proof that you usually get what you pay for.

I picked up a 7 1/4" yesterday and went with Frued over Irwin for the same reason.

Yeah, but the Irwin is cleaner! [)]

Well for the Forrest you'll want to find a reputable resharpening service for it. Anyone know of any (mail order/local)?

I haven't done it yet, but the obvious choice is to send it back to Forrest for resharpening.

That is a very good comparison. No wonder people are happy with the Forrest.

Besides having very good blades, the people at Forrest are very good to deal with.

That's one of the better apples to oranges comparisons that I've seen in awhile. [)]

I just got a Forrest Chopmaster for my CMS. It has the same massive chunks of carbide distributed around the rim ... 80 of 'em, all told. Haven't tried it yet but I know it's gotta be leagues better than the stock blade, which I regard as the only serious "factory defect" on my Delta 36-255L.

Yes they do a good job. Not the speediest (3 weeks) but very fine job.

Considering the expense of the original blade, if you're happy with it, I'd definitely let Forrest sharpen it....they're as well respected for their sharpening as they are for their blade.

I did not know that. I always see tossed around that Forrest blades are good and all that, and are worth resharpening, but never once in any review, book, or website did they mention having Forrest resharpen them. The most I've seen is how to properly package the blade for shipment, but no suggestions other than "find a good shop".

                              To sate my own curiosity:

                              Forrest Sharpening Service

                              It'll cost you a Marathon.
