    Niagara Falls In Winter

I made a run down to Niagara Falls yesterday to see the ice build up at the base of the falls. It was still a little cool but I had a nice day out with LOML. I'll be heading back when it warms up to the plus side of freezing as this ice will still be there come May!

From the "deep south" part of Canada

Great pic. At first you don't appreciate the scale until you see how tiny the observation deck is in comparison. I've been to Niagara twice and it's strange to see that deck not clouded in mist.

The Americans have the prettier falls but the Canadians got the better view!

For those who've never seen the falls, it's a must see. I've probably seen them 15-20 times, and they never cease to amaze...anytime of the year, day or night. They always make me feel powerless, humbled, and insignificant.
Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

It's like a broken toilet that can't be shut off, I'm always looking for the valve to cut it off.
All that water going down the tube, so to speak.

I've never seen Niagra Falls nor am I likely to. Nice pic and it does look scenic. I have seen Dry Falls though and that is plenty scenic as well.

I wish I could say that is a place I might like to see, however I know what that white stuff is.

              Great looking shot though.
I been up in the area several times, but never had the time to see that.
I would like to one day if the chance occurs.

We have what we call the "Falls" down here close to the Gulf. It's in Styx river. About 4' high and 20' long. It's not that high, but everyone walks the inner tube around that thing.
Hidden rocks are no good for your butt on an inner tube. :

That looks really pretty. Too bad that is a winter thing. I will pass on seeing it. Being raised in the deep south my wife and I have a low tollerance for cold so we limit our exposure to snow and ice to pictures on Christmas cards. Its in the low 60's here now and she says she is freezing and is ready to move farther south.

Here's a little different perspective of the falls:

As a former resident of NY and MI, I have seen the falls many times. I always thought that the Canadians had the better view and the better falls.

I think the winter views are awesome so thanks for sharing.

I wonder if they still light the US falls with colored lights from the Canadian side. Anyone who makes the trip should definitely view both Falls from the Canadian side and at day and night if possible.... just my opinion.

Gary, they still shine lights on both falls year round. The cost of operating the lights is shared by the parks commissions on both sides of the borders.

Living in Buffalo NY, I have been to the Falls many, many times - it is truly a very powerful and moving site. Being a local you ALMOST forget how impressive it is, but what happened this winter, as the pics show, brings back the feeling of awe. By the way, there is still snow on the ground here in Buffalo....
