This covers it, or most of it.
Is "spelling" not important anymore?

I suppose that my bad southern grammar combined with my pour spelling used with the tiny typing space on this iPad and being butchered by its spell checker puts me near the top of the list! Sow bee it

Lets eat, Grandma!
Comma's save lives!!!
Grammar has not been taught diligently to either of my kids, the youngest of whom is a sophomore in high school. They insist on reading all of these (what I consider pointless) classics and do not teach them how to properly construct sentences.
The your, you're, yore, and its vs. it's, their, they're, there usage is deplorable.LeeComment

I work at a College. Some of the crap that I see on academic papers completely amazes me.
Modern communication does not seem to put much emphasis on splling.
I think things started to go downhill June, 1992.
(I worked for the person that started the trend).
Then, we started txting with our sell fones, and forgot how 2 communc8
cleerle.
I used to cringe when I heard the expression "Post-literate." Unfortunately, we seem to have arrived.Last edited by durango dude; 04-01-2015, 10:18 AM.Comment

The rules are not ambiguous! We have been 100% consistent in the implementation and enforcement of them as far as when we observe a rules violation. These rules have kept the tone in our forum what it is from the beginning.Donate to my Tour de Cure

Another common grammar error is "I seen".
I seen a nice car drive by just now!
Another thing that bugs me is excessive or unnecessary adverbs.
Honestly, I actually and almost uniquely thought that you definitely use adverbs very much.Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. - Thomas EdisonComment

Chris M (huge football player, super smart kid, and perpetual wise a**) got the word "heinous". You don't have to use your imagination too much to guess how he pronounced it. He spelled it correctly and for extra credit, he repeated the word--all with a straight face. The class erupted and Mrs. D--who was rumored to be an ex-nun--just about had a heart attack.Comment

My English teachers often left the impression that if you did not spell correctly or use correct grammar folks would treat you with disdain and contempt and it would be unlikely that you would stay employed. My life experience has taught me otherwise.Donate to my Tour de Cure

apologies for offending forum sensibilities.
Sam Maloof ----- a woodworker I openly revere ----- was bipartisan.
He made chairs for Presidents Reagan and Carter.
Maloof also seems to write and spell pretty well.
He has a wonderful autobiography ---- it's an easy and delightful read.
Now if I could just get an owner's manual that was actually proof-read.Comment
