Losing My Friend Of 13 Years

Thirteen years ago a scared little four month old pup came into my life. Animal control had found her wandering. Someone had abused her and dumped her in the city. Bindi came home with Kim and me and we started the long road in making her a big part of out family. Over the next long months, Bindi grew attached to us and showed us more love and devotion than we could expect. She took on the role of family protector and was a great judge of character. Bindi loved to go camping and always knew when we were packing the gear and would be waiting to go.

A couple of years ago, she started developing arthritis in her back legs but she never complained and would always be up for a walk. She knew the sight of a Tim Hortons cup and wait for her Timbit. Saturday morning she just couldn't manage to hold herself up. Kim and I had to help her out to the yard for her business. Still no complaints. Last night, she laid at my feet and just looked at me. I knew it was time. We took her to her favourite doctor( the only one who could pull her about with out getting growled at) and let her have peace.

I laid on the floor and held her tight as she closed her eyes one last time. Bindi was more that a pet. She was a companion, a friend, and the best dog I could ever ask for. There may be others in my future but none that will be as special. I know she will be waiting for me just this side of the Rainbow Bridge and we will cross in heaven together.

It's been almost 4 years (On the 10th of next month to be precise) since we had to let our beloved Deacon go... We were so very blessed to have him in our lives, and it sounds like your Bindi was very much the same...

May you find peace in your time of loss, and comfort in knowing she was well loved.... and returned that love no questions asked.

She was fortunate to have made her way into your life it seems. It's hard to have to say goodbye though.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I know how much she meant to you and your family. I can certainly appreciate what you are feeling as it is always hard to say goodbye to a close friend like that.

The loss of a loved pet and friend is always traumatic. Take peace in the fact that you made the right decision to end her suffering.

Thank you friends for all your kind words and support. I still hear her padding around downstairs when I get up in the morning and expect to see her waiting when I get home. I'm sure it will eventually pass but for now I still can't get past the fact that she is gone.
