    Retireing

After 34 years of carrying a badge, I have decided that it is time to call it quits. I will retire the end of January 2015. I have had a great career over the time, K-9 handler, hostage negotiator, special deputy u.s. marshal and chief of police for a 70 man department.

I loved every minute of it and love the guys and gals in my department, but there comes a time when you realize it is a young mans job.

I will spend my retirement volunteering with a non-profit group called "Saving a Hero's Place". We make Honor Chairs for departments to honor first responders killed in the line of duty. It is all done for free and I will get no pay. It will probably cost me money but what the ****. Check out group out at

Saving a Hero's Place creates custom wooden Honor Chairs to memorialize the fallen by saving their seat and honoring their memory. Please donate to support.

I can't wait to be able to spend more time in the shop. WooHoo !!!!!!! Get to buy more tools.

Thanks for your service. I can't blame you for needing to hang it up after so many years.

You should consider using a chair yourself and take up a bit of fishing if you like it. Even if you don't, it certainly is pleasant and can be very relaxing. I know you won't get too relaxed.
That is a worthy cause to get involved in. You gotta stay busy, so doing something you like is an excellent choice.
I'd like to say thanks for your service as well. Don't be a stranger around here. Show us what you make.

Congrats, Jeff. After 34 years you have earned some relaxation and rest. I assume there will still be plans for the occasional breakfast or lunch at the Pig Stop....

Be careful in those last few months. Good luck in your retirement.

Good Luck and congratulations! I'm thinking about it but we still have two in college and a house to fix up. I have 35+ years in at a much less dangerous job but need to work a few more for everything to be comfortable in retirement.

Congratulations, retirement is great. I retired the second (and last) time this past June. Yesterday while working in the garden I collected a bucket of worms, think that I'll head to the river and drown them in a few minutes!
                      Have fun
