I just went through this with Wayne a month or so ago - I thought the same thing, had contacted him about a BT3X switch, mentioned the 21829's in passing.

From Wayne's email: "On the Craftsman model 21829, it is important to know the sixth number, i.e. the model 218290 will likely need a new switch. The model 218291 has not reported switch problems. "

FWIW, both of my 21829's were the 0 version and needed switches - which includes the display model I bought at the closeout.

Must be a lot of this going around. It just happened to me today - but I took the switch out, and it tested OK with an Ohm meter. Then I put it back and it works. Repair by Observation I call it. Happens to me a lot.

But the amazing thing was I came to this forum (not something I do as frequently anymore) and this thread was at the top on the home page!! Talk about timing. I will definitely give Wayne a shout.

        Thanks everyone.

This happened to me a while back, scared the **** out of me as I was holding a sheet of plywood.

I removed the switch and used the other leads and it worked.

It only took Wayne one day to reply to my request for a new switch. He just needed the SN of my BT3100. Additionally, he "copied" me on the request to his department to send me a new switch. Thanks Wayne!

                  Less than 29 hrs...

From me sending an email, to noticing the boxed replacement switch on my doorstep!

Funny it took eight years for me to look for a replacement at least I found this exemplary support!

                  Thank you,
                  Nevin

I emailed Wayne about 2 days ago just to see if he was still offering free switch replacements. A few hours later i got a reply!! This offer is still available and i got my switch in the mail a day later!.

Thanks for the great customer service!!

I was quite impressed when I found Ryobi would replace the faulty switch on the table saw and even more impressed when I received one in the mail a few days after sending a request. Thanks for the great service!

Count me in as another happy Ryobi customer. I contacted Wayne this past weekend about my recalled switch, and the replacement was delivered today. Thank you Wayne!

Just an additional data point to help future members out. Back in Jan. 2008 my switch failed on my BT3100-1. I e-mailed Wayne and quickly received a response. A replacement was immediately sent.

Just over the weekend, the replacement switch failed again...after eight years! Turning off the saw didn't stop the motor. You have to unplug it.

I found that 2008 e-mail and figured I give it a try. WOW! Wayne is still there, answered my e-mail in just over an hour! He said another redesign of the switch occurred in March of 2009 but he was very surprised that my replacement back in 2008 had now failed again. Nevertheless he was very apologetic, which was not necessary, and is sending me a new one.

                              Talk about customer service!!!!!

I'm posting this in case people still have the problem and was wondering since Wayne started this thread back in 2007!

Received my replacement switch the other day. Fast response from Wayne. Awesome. Thanks for the heads up on switch replacement.
