Which wood and where to find?

I am making my second adirondack loveseat (Norm's) and would like to use cypress again, but am unable to find any 8/4, 6/4 sized stock in Denver. Paxton is the usual major source supplier here, sometimes Austins.

Any good suggestions for a good mail order supplier for cypress that won't break the bank? I can get 4/4 stock here, so would only need to purchase the thick pieces via the web. I even thought about just laminating to get what I need.

Any other suggestions for a more available alternative? Maybe lyptus, or western cedar? I find redwood a little soft. This will be an outside all year round location, but under a covered deck sitting on concrete.

Any suggestions would be appreciated - to either question.

My area abounds in cypress sawmills. If you like I'll look around and see if any of them ship. This week I was working with cypress and like it sooooo much better than the antique pine I've used so much.

Not exactly sure if they carry cyprus, by my local wood supplier definitely ships and they are great people to work with.

Since 1965, family-owned and family-operated KenCraft Company, Inc. has dominated the hardwood lumber industry in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.

I googled cypress sawmills in South Georgia and found a good many. Some did state that they ship. One price I remember is $1.40 / bf + shipping. That may wind up costing less than big box would charge if they had it. Most sawmills don't appear to mess with the Internet.

Lyptus, cedar, teak, white oak, red wood, and mahogany are all decent choices.

I bought cherry crown molding from Wall Lumber several years ago. Not an inch of it was unusable. Their prices are just OK, though, but they do deliver. There's a link at the bottom of the page to help you figure out shipping.

I've thought about making Adirondacks but get scared away from the amount of wood needed. I think ~30bf. I have enough white oak or ipe to do it, but that means the chair would be over 100lbs.

I appreciate if you could inquire with your local mills / lumber yards regarding shipping to Denver.

              Thanks.

I think he was probably talking to one of the other posters who said they could ask if he wanted them to... and they actually carried cyprus

I volunteered to check my local mills. I know for a fact the large ones ship but their prices are premium. Some of the small mills are very reasonable. There is a mill called Hobbywood or something like that near the Tenn. line that is about 1/2 retail and always has some really good planks that were left over from a full stack for really really cheap. Only open on weekend and don't think he ships. Someone in the area could scope it out?

Check with Sears-Trostel in Fort Collins. I haven't looked for cypress, so I don't recall if they have any, but they have an incredible supply of wood. They also have the most amazing supply of moldings I've ever seen. They have a milling shop as well as a woodworking/lumber shop.

I've always used cedar for Adirondacks, and they work great. Did not realize cypress might work too...

Cedar would be much cheaper, methinks.
