My eldest sister, who turned 78 recently, has been battling cancer for several months. It started in her bladder and between surgery, chemo, and radiation the doctors were hopeful of her being in at least a temporary remission. They then found it had moved into her stomach and was growing at a rate that no effective treatment was possible. She was moved to a rehab hospital last week since the small town she lives in does not have a hospice.
Norma passed quietly in her sleep just after midnight last night with her oldest daughter and husband by her side. Most of her kids and grandkids were able to get therein time to say good by to her.
Unfortunately with the current health issues of my brother, my wife and my own none of us are able to make a 12 hour drive to be with the family. They understand but it is still upsetting to us not to be able to be with them in their time of grief.
