    Camphor Root Bowl #2

This is the finished product of the bowl shown work-in-process here:

It is from the same camphor root as this one (and I got more that will also become bowls):

For the finish, I applied several coats of Danish oil, then turner's wax. I turned this bowl entirely with the new carbide tools I made a little bit ago, as discussed here:

Looking good! Hope the 2x6 competition does not include bowls, no one will stand a chance!

That looks spectacular! What is the size?

2x6 into bowls? An 8 footer could be enough for 16 bowls... But then again kiln-dried wood is not fun to turn at all.

Thanks all for the kind words. I'm really enjoying this wood, it helps with my sinuses and is very forgiving to work with.

To answer Gerti's question on size: ~3.5in tall, ~6in diameter.

Thanks Bill! Just asking because it reminds me a lot of something I turned a few years back from cherry, though mine was only about 3" in diameter:

That's a beauty Gerti! And inspirational - I haven't done a lidded box/bowl in a while, so will do one on the next camphor blank. And if you will forgive my hubris - great minds think alike!

Thanks Bill! That piece of cherry (found by the way side) was particularly inspiring, just like your camphor root. Back then and still today I am just a humble sport turner: catch and release... Learned my lesson and have shielded all the neon lights near my lathe now.
