    The burning on the walnut definitely was a feed rate issue. With the other bits i had to keep things moving along at a decent rate on the maple, which i think helped to contribute to tearout problems. I was just surprised that i could go as slow as i wanted with the spiral bit so i control how much it trimmed off at once. The walnut just showed that it could still burn, just not nearly as easily.
