    What to do with chat?

The current chat software doesn't work well with the upgraded version of the forum. The basic problem is that when you are logged into the site and go to chat, you need to log in again. We haven't had time to do extensive testing on it to see if there are other issues.

I can only speak for myself but I've never even thought about using the chat feature. Plus it doesn't seem as though we have enough people logged on at the same time to take advantage of the feature.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Agree with Jussi. I know some other boards use chat to welcome new members but I've never had an interest in participating in a chat.

        There's a chat feature?
As far as login in, I still have to log in every time I open the program, sometimes several times each session.

Heck, I talk to myself a lot, but unless a lot more people log in, I'd just be chatting with myself using forum software instead of mumbling aloud ...

In the 12+ years that I've been using woodworking forums, I think I've entered one chat session. They're rarely well populated. Posts take longer but accomplish the same things. YMMV.

I think chat probably worked best earlier on when a session was announced. Even then participation was minimal. I don't think it is a feature that will be missed.

I didn't even know there was a chat feature.

I loved it on another board. The problem that I see it is two-fold:
                1. It's not obvious we have it.
                2. There's no way to tell if someone is in it unless you go in.

You do something like WTO has, I'm in.

Also, I did not have to sign in at all.
I have a little blog about my shop

Chat rooms IMHO went out the door with AOL in the late 90s... The fact we still have one 15 years later is actually a bit stunning...

Never used it. I would say activate it later if there is a need. I have use chat on my ATT Uverse site and just used it to get a part number so I could order a pan bolt and other pieces for wife's mini cooper. She ran over a parking bumper and did some damage under the car. Nothing serious dented pan and little and damaged pan bolt, messed up some plastic shields and one jack pad. Also replacing some missing fasteners. The is no damage to suspension, wheels or tire and drives, handles and brakes normally, for a mini. I think Chat is good in some situations but here don't know.

A few years back there was another question about chat (think it had an issue during an upgrade) and that was the first I had ever heard we had it.
It isn't readily findable (still no idea where, and I figured it might have something under quicklinks or something with a down arrow), so I say do we really need it?
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

I know where it is. Go to Forums/Discussion and the Chat is right there with all the other sub forums. Have I ever used it? No, really never found a need
