I've been making a few boxes, lately. Took recently to finger joints - doing a variation on Greene & Greene style joints.
I've been doing okay - but there's one key trick I still need to master --- moving the stop block the correct direction on the miter fence!
My boxes have male and female sides (just what you'd imagine). I cut the male side ---- and the female side needs to be just a tad bit smaller -
by the width of the blade. I use a stop block on my miter fence to decide where the cut goes.
Stupid me - I moved the stop block toward the blade 1/8" ------ which makes the female cut 1/8" wider than the male cut. Multiply by two cuts - and
you get 1/4" too wide ---- not something you can fix quickly or easily.
I was supposed to move the stop block 1/8" away from the blade.
I know this isn't the least bit intuitive - but it works!
