I don't eat much of that sort of food anymore but it is a shame to see the icon disappear.

However, I am amazed that the demise of Hostess has gotten so much attention on a wood working forum.

I'm amazed, that is, unless it is really the effect of the union's participation that is getting this attention.

They may not know what Twinkie is but they will know what tweeting is and what a tweaker is.

There must be some real addicts out there. Check out this ad...$25 per Twink.

Don't worry, Twinkie, as a trade marked brand is a marketable asset of Hostess and will be sold and the product will live on as well as the Hostess name and other products.
Sometimes the old man passed out and left the am radio on so I got to hear the oldie songs and current event kind of things

When Twinkies come back I'll have to look real close and make sure it doesn't say somewhere "Made in China"

              my comments on this thread:

              1. it gets attention here because many of us are old (you figure out what that means) and we grew up with twinkies and hostess cupcakes. I used to love it when i found a hostess cupcake in my lunch bag, a real treat. Haven't eaten them but very occasionally in 45 years or so, though.

              2. I'm sure they're going to try and sell the assets as a whole to another bakery firm, the various news articles mentioned a few candidates, if not successful they'll try and sell the individual trademarks, recipies and associated machinery if necessary, twinkies trademark and recipies being the crown jewel, I imagine. There's probably still a large market for classic twinkies. A country that runs on software runs on twinkies (or is it Ding Dongs?).

              3. I wonder if this is a news item because it portrays a story of the greed of the Baker's Union in destroying the goose that laid the golden egg. My understanding is that the Teamsters union represented the majority of Hostess workers and had recently accepted cuts and reduction of benefits. They said they had access to the company books, that the company was on shaky financial ground, and felt that it was likely a protracted strike by the Bakers and inability to come to terms would force the company to close the doors.

However you look at it, the wants of the few outweighed the needs of the many here.

No doubt, because she likely got them free.

I'm only 31, and this is the first thing to die/ go away that I can think of under the header "It's always been there my whole life". Not that Twinkies or Hostess has beena big part of my life- but it's just one of those things. My whole life Twinkie's have been around, but now they're gone (well, at least for now).

                              Bummer.

They might not be gone after all... Sounds like Grupo Bimbo is bidding on the carcass. Looks like all those American union jobs might just get shipped south of the border where sugar, and labor are cheaper... Probably provide a mess of decent paying jobs someplace like Matamoros or somewhere like that...
