    sawstop

oops! meant to post this with the jimmy jig. I saw this demo'd a couple years ago and almost jumped out of my skin. I would have thought that this (or something like it) would have become standard equipment by now.

    Stan,

It is a great idea, but they have had no luck in interesting saw manufacturers in licensing their technology as it would increase the sales cost of the saw for the few that wanted it versus the majority that did not.

Their latest approach is attempting to pass a 'safety' related government bill that would [u]require</u> manufacturers to incorporate the device whether they want to or not. I do feel that government intervention to force the use of seat belts is probably a good thing, but I'll make my own decisions in the garage....

To me, seat belt laws fall into the same category as the 55MPH limit and helmet laws. Those were forced on the State legislatures by the DOT (which has no elected officials in it)under threat of withholding federal highway funds. Do we want the same thing to happen to our hobby? Ask AtH what happens when the government gets involved!

In the end it would add a bare minimum of around $200 to the cost of each saw. I like the idea and would love to have it but not at the point of doubling the price of the saw itself. If I were going to spend $1500 to $2500 for a saw, the cost would be managable.
