This is probably my first project while following a plan. Previous projects were “off the top of my head”, and usually left something to be desired.
I decided to replace my old miter station with one I found in a book. What I liked about it is the fact that the wings could be taken off, and stored inside the miter station. It also sported a long fence on each side, and they stored on the back of the miter station when not in use. The stop block could only go to the end of the fence, so a sliding extension was added to allow the stop block to be used as close as 6” from the blade.
I made a few mistakes along the way, but in the end, it worked out pretty well. But I did learn a few things while making it. When it is set up, the distance from the end of one fence to the end of the other is 97”. Distance from the end of one wing to the end of the other is about 69”. When closed for storage, the unit measures about 16” X 37”.
First pic shows the station with no wings attached.
Second pic has one of the wings taken out of storage.
Third pic is with wings attached.
Fourth pic is putting a fence on one wing.
Fifth pic shows stop block detail.
Fifth pic shows a wing flipped over, ready to insert for storage.
