    Beemers, Beamers, and Bimmers

I didn't want the "Locked Out" thread to go array, so I'm offering a short dissertation on the BMW moniker discussion.

    ==============================================

    Definitions:
Bimmer - proper accepted slang for BMW cars. Most people don't know this.
Beamer/Beemer - proper accepted slang for BMW motorcycles. You will hear this term used incorrectly by many people.
Bummer - When you get a speeding ticket.
Bitter - Another German car. Very rare; hand built.

So just why is a BMW car called a 'bimmer' not a 'beemer' or 'beamer'?

The answer in part lies in knowing some BMW history and what came first.

All real BMW enthusiasts know that BMW got a big start on two wheels, what many call the real BMWs.

In those days, BMW motorcycles were quite active in racing, and one of their competitors at the track was often the BSA bikes.

Well as things would have it, a track slang developed, and the BMWs were usually referred to as 'beemers' and the BSAs were referred to as 'beesers'.

So, of course for any true enthusiast, there is no way that a BMW car could be called a 'beemer', so they were called 'bimmers'.

Unfortunately, in the US and Canada, and perhaps other countries, there was a time (kind of still is) where for various reasons, a BMW owner was considered an upwardly mobile person, and of course due to the fun in driving their BMWs most all of them had big grins on their faces.

Hence it is little surprise that the non enthusiast types out there incorrectly labeled BMW cars and their owners as 'beamers' or 'beemers'.

Being a Jeeper, I'm upwardly mobile enough to run over both Beamers and Bimmers turning them into Bammers, another way of making a Bummer. And if you can make them explode like the movies, it's a Boomer.

Do I get extra point for using all the vowels?

    "Proper accepted slang" by who?
"most people don't know this" meaning it's not accepted by the masses.

And I just noticed this part in Wikipedia
Interestingly, in the German language, the common pronunciation of the term "bimmer" is "beemer."

My wife used to be a Beamer. Now she's Mrs. Richard in Smithville.
That's about the closest I'll ever get.

Bitter is also how you feel when Bimmer/Beamer/Beemer blew your doors off moments before you got "bummer".

You do get extra points, except what happened to "Y" which is worth bookoo bonus points.

I like the Bammer one. I hope the masses don't get annoyed if I use that term.

              LOL

The problem is that your assuming a Jeep will actually catch one in order to use those vowels

we have the means when we need them.

The Grand Cherokee SRT8 is fast, people; faster than the Cayenne Turbo and X5 4.0iS that used to look down their premium noses at the Jeep. In fact, it's almost as quick to 60 mph as a Porsche 911. You may gasp when ready.
oh, and alot of us Jeepers have CB radios. As fast as you go, I don't think you'll outrun the radio waves.

Hmm... Back when I lived in Germany, whenever I saw a large puff of smoke on the Autobahn, it was either a Semi or a BMW. Even new 7-series models. I guess they like (liked) to burn oil. Had an old 5er while my car was restored, that thing used almost more oil than gas.
