    Possibly Another Harbor Freight Jem

I picked up a couple of Harbor Freight 95746 3rd Hand Work Supports. They are currently on sale for $9.99 but I had the current 15% off coupon and got them for $8.49. Although they're advertised for use in hanging cabinets, I plan on using mine to secure loads in the bed of my pick-up.

They seem very well constructed to me and actually have some weight to them. The ratcheting mechanism also seems very strong and all working parts appear to be metal. Time will tell how well it holds up but it's replacing one that only lasted a few months before it broke and I paid over 3 times as much for that one.

I can think of some photographic uses, as stands to which one can clamp lights, reflectors, or backdrop cloths.

May have to make a HF run. Hung one set of cabinets with an extra set of arms/back. This has got to be steadier!

How do these compare with the considerably more expensive Fastcap Third Hand?

              not to shabby

I picked up a set last week and was pretty happy. I used them to hold up plastic sheeting to close off a room while I drywalled. I then used them to hold up ceiling trim that was 12 foot long while I made the final adjustments. They colapse to be about 4' long so they store easily, they say they can be used to support stuff in your truck bed, but I don't think they are strong enough.

For $10 bucks or less, they worked great. The lock for the extension rod is the only issue that slips under great pressure.

I have 2 fastcaps and they slip too under a lot of weight. I plan to try adding some of these. I might cut some down to use as shorter supports.
The rod and lock clip have to be clean,no oils like the quick grip bar and clip,on those clamps, to hold on. Powder cleanser works well to absorb and clean the surfaces or denatured alcohol.

                        Andrew,

As a fellow Fastcap Third Hand'er myself, I too am curious as to how these compare. I thought I scored a deal getting the four pack of Third Hand's on sale for $120 but jeez, I could get 12 of the HF for that money . So if you check them out, I'd appreciate your opinion as I have no HF within 2 hours of me .

                        Thanks,
                        Greg

I think the first post has a link to the catalog store with the sale price. You could probably get them shipped cheaper than you could go get them.

Thanks Mess, but I was not going to drive two hours for these. I'm assembling an order (online) and figured I would pick one or two more up if they were up to par of the FastCaps. Need a couple other HF essentials (latex golves, throw away blades, etc...) and figured what the heck.

Now, only if Harbor freight would bring back their free shipping coupons...

Dave, thats awesome...thank you!! I've been wanting the fastcaps for a while to throw up a temporary "spray booth" in the garage, but didn't want to spend the Big $...these are perfect!
