    not my best work, but

I thought I'd show off an amazing Blank.

This is a Chrome Baron Rollerball wrapped in Cinder Dragonhide with a wine BEB ring where I messed up the blank while trimming.

The creator of the blank later told me that of the four I have, this one would be the hardest to turn. Now he tells me.

That's looks great, Mike. I like the "hodge-podge" of multi colors.

      Regards...

Boy, that stuff is a royal PITA to turn. If you think the cast stuff is tough, try a cone straight off the hoof... Turn a little, set it aside to dry, turn a little more, set it aside to dry some more, etc. etc. etc.... Frack! Definitely a unique look, though. Since I turn to relax, I avoid the stuff, myself.

I have got to get the casting supplies... As cool as burls and figured woods go, there's just so much you can do with resin casts.

              Nice Work.

What kit is that? It looks like a chrome Navigator kit.

                    What's That?

                    What does "BEB" stand for?

                    Nice pen, by the way.
I really am going to make something one of these days.

It's a Chrome Baron Rollerball from http://www.arizonasilhouette.com/. But the pen is identical to the Navigator, But I like Bills prices and selection better. That, and I get them faster, Some times I think he drives them overnight himself.

I got the blanks from a guy on penturners.org He makes some great cast blanks, I have 7 of his castings now but this is the first I've turned. Several are totally worm eaten wood that he stabilizes and casts with resin so that all the holes are filled. They are very nice hybrid (wood/resin) blanks. The dragonhides are $15-18 the last time I saw him sell some. I have three more.

what Uncle said. Box Elder Burl. In this case it's been dyed with a wine color and stabilized. It was actually a scrap from another pen, and the blank was a freebie that Bill at http://www.arizonasilhouette.com/ put in an order (he's terrible about accidentally dropping extra blanks in there).
