Is DHL incompetent?

I took advantage of the recent Amazon sale on the Forrest WWII that Dustmight alerted us to: http://www.bt3central.com/showthread...hlight=forrest

It had gone down to $50.20 when I ordered it on 3/28. When I hadn't received by 4/10, I checked the package tracking. At that time, DHL said they handed it off to the USPS in Salem, OR on 4/1. I contacted Amazon, who said it must be lost. They shipped out a replacement (via USPS, not DHL) which arrived in a couple of days.

To my surprise, the original shipment showed up in my mailbox yesterday. Now when I check the tracking, it no longer shows the package being handed off to USPS on April 1:

4/23/2008 12:44 pm Final Delivery Confirmed.
4/22/2008 11:13 am Arrived at USPS. Longview, WA
4/21/2008 10:26 pm Transit through DHL facility Chehalis Regional Hub,
8:32 pm Processed at DHL Location. Chehalis Regional Hub,
8:25 pm In transit. Chehalis Regional Hub, WA
5:08 pm Depart Facility Salem, OR
4:43 pm Processed at DHL Location. Salem, OR
3:45 pm In transit. Salem, OR
4/1/2008 9:12 am Arrived at DHL facility. Salem, OR
3/31/2008 11:36 pm In transit. Chehalis Regional Hub, WA
7:55 pm Transit through DHL facility Chehalis Regional Hub,
3/29/2008 2:14 pm Depart Facility Wilmington, OH
9:23 am Processed at DHL Location. Wilmington, OH
8:58 am In transit. Wilmington, OH
Shipment Request Acknowledged

It apparently hung out at the Salem DHL facility for THREE WEEKS before going BACK to Chehalis, WA (note it had already been there on
3/31) On April 22, it was given to USPS who was able to deliver the next day.

I've posted the other one for sale in Member Classifieds. And I won't be shipping DHL

I don't remember the name of the carrier, but I ordered an item last year that made it around the U.S. before reaching my house. It was within 30 miles of my place when it went to Texas, or some other southern state. So I guess DHL isn't the only one to be incompetent.

The company I work for had an exclusive deal with DHL for a while. However, we had so many issues with their service that we've all but dropped them completely....

I have had three consecutie bad experiences with DHL and have since refused to buy anything from an yone who only uses them for shipping. the oalst one showed "on the truck for delivery" three days in a row (I was home all of that time) and when I called them, the guy said apparently the driver just didn't try delivering it!
Maybe it is a regional thing but for me, DHL does not exist anymore.

I have bought a couple of things from Amazon with free overnight shipping with DHL

Once it took three days to get her and the other was on time. DHL is not very good with their tracking system either. I couldn't get tracking infor on the item that took 3 day untill after it was here. Giving the Item to the USPS by DHL for delivery is asking for trouble.

Last year I complained to DHL when their driver didn't want to drive the 1/2 mile up our driveway and just tossed a box into the snowbank near the highway. It happened to contain my business laptop coming back from repair. Our USPS mail carrier came along just after the box slid off the top of the snowbank and out into the street. She drove it up to our house.

We'd had other packages "delivered" in the same manner.

Talking Ups

Ordered something from Amazon that UPS was to deliver. it traveled around then went to Jacksonville Fl. Usually I get it next because I am 90 miles west of Jax via I10. This package next went to Dover Maryland- hundreds of miles north of me. I called up and complained, and the agent and I had a good laugh. I said I wished that it had been a Garden Gnome, so that I might get some travel pictures.
