Daylight Savings Time

is dumb. My youngest has gotten up at 6:00 AM the last two mornings. I don't mind so much that she is waking me up as she is tired the rest of the day.

I didn't even realize it was going on, until yesterday. I guess that is one issue with all the atomic clocks/watches, and NTP servers. (two clocks didn't change one in the vehicle)

overall its kind of a crock. My college astronomy text book comapred it to the little old lady who cut a foot off the end of her blanket and sewed it on the top to make it longer.

the really dumb thing is that they changed the date rules on which we change a couple of years ago.

So I have three classes of clocks.
1. Those that don't change at all - needs to be manually changed.
2. those that were smartish clocks and had the old rules programmed in so that they change automatically except to the old rules. Now they don't change when they should and will change when they shouldn't.
3. Those clocks which get the time standard signal from radio transmissions (so called atomic clocks) which are always correct.

I have a lot of clocks - especially of the type 2 above. So I get real confused.

I had to be in the Bay Area over the weekend so I set all the clocks in that house correctly. Arrived back at Tahoe last night and reset the kitchen clocks but forgot abut the one near my bed. My watch was also still set to PDT rather than PST.

This morning I woke up and the clock said 5. Being half asleep I got the time change backward and thought it was six. Reset the bedside clock, got out of bed and went upstairs to install a new programmable thermostat. Except that it was really 4 AM.

I went back to bed for a couple of hours.

Having the sun set later during the summer is nice, but with the time change, I had to hustle back up here because I've become real sqeeamish about night approaches into the nearby (Truckee) airport. Something about running into the rocks, which become invisible in the dark.

Is it the daylight savings time that's dumb or the standard time? DST goes from sping to fall and now we are in standard time.

+1 in the time-change-haters column.

I would be fine with always being on DST or Standard Time but I see little reason to switch (and for god's sake no reason to change the rules on when we switch causing lots of extra hassle).

As a "bonus" the shifts feel backwards to me, but maybe that's just sour grapes because I don't like having the sunset hours before I leave work...

I know we are on standard time. DST is dumb. The idea of arbitrarily changing the time is dumb. I don't care if you declare DST the standard or keep the current one standard, just don't change it.

Spent some time changing all the clocks. Some of our digital ones takes some fiddling between 'mode' and 'set', as they are different. Now to do the vehicles.

I set all the clocks in the house, but the one in the car is an hour off. Personally, I'll take DST all year long. I'd rather have the light in the latter part of the day.
