An Update On My Brother The Woodworker
His website is here:
http://www.bengreendesigns.com/ I saw the table in person this past weekend. It is gorgeous. Tomorrow he starts a two week tryout with a custom shop up in NY. The guy has 4000 sqft on 2 levels and does custom woodworking and metal work. The shop owner says my brother has more skills than most of his recent hires but still does the tryout since he's had too many hires not know what they said they did.

If he looks at his website, I would think that would be a lock!
The only way he couldn't be hired is if it takes a year to make one piece! Beautiful stuff! |

My brother's website (well the pictures of the stuff on it) got him the tryout. The guy is aparently very particular in his methods (for example all dovetails must be hand cut) but I can't fault him. He is busy enough to keep 4000 sqft running to the point that he is behind on orders.

Cool stuff for your brother. His work & designs are very top notch.
How does he refer to you? You say "My brother, the woodworker". I'm wondering how you are billed?

I don't blame the reason for tryouts, or a probationary period. I've seen some doozies walk in my door. Had everything from total lies on an application to pictures of someone else's work. It may not be noticed the first day on the job and then again it may be.
I had a guy apply that claimed he had 16 yrs experience. The first project I put him on was floor standing showcases for a jewelry store. When he asked where the 2x4's were kept I decided to check him out. His 16 years was in prison building benches. ![]() .

Probably I am the computer geek. I call him that because I have 6 brothers, but then I suppose if I just say "my brother" you guys can figure it out from context.

Hmm.... well there is a computer geek, a woodworker, a construction foreman, a dealer in Vegas, a freelance researcher/writer for TV shows, the head electric/lighting guy for the Blue Man show on Broadway and a project manager for a computer company.
