    Recommending a book

Last Christmas my brother in law gave me a book on toy making. I did not really get into the book until earlier this month when I decided to make one of the projects for my great nephews.

I am sure many of you have seen this book but just in case and specially if you like to get into toy making (mostly for boys I guess), I highly recommend that you take a look at "The Great All American Wooden Toy Book" by Norm Marshall.

I went with a truck which works with several other project from the book. The truck project had a lot of of details but the Instructions were very simple and clear. Here is a pick at the finished project:

Here is the truck carrying a special cargo for his brother (somehow reminds me of the movie Men In Black ):

And the new owner checking the vehicle (I suppose he was checking it for any rust damage ). His only complain: "Where is the driver".

For his birthday he is going to get couple of flat beds (to carry his other toys) and next Christmas a tanker

Great job on the Xmas presents. I am sure they will be enjoyed for a long time.

I have to admit I have that book (got it used) and have not even looked through it. I guess I will have to take it out and look at the projects in it.

Thanks guys! The best part of the project was watching the little guy driving around his new truck, moving loads from one side of the room to the other!!

Kevin, I got that book used as well, as I think the book is out of print but for sure give it a try. You will enjoy it.

              Thanks C-Man.

The truck was made of Pine and I brushed 4 coats of Minwax Polycrylic.

The Grasshoppers (I made 2) were made with Maple an Walnut and I finished them with 3 coats of Tung Oil.

That looks great! How did you drill the hole for the steering wheel?

Thanks Mark. The hole is drilled from bottom of the cab (15 degrees) prior to gluing pieces together. The column for steering wheel goes in from the bottom and the wheel goes on it afterward. I made sure that wheel was turning freely after glue up but almost forgot during the finishing.
