Around the coffee pot This forum is for any topic that you would normally talk about at the office "around the coffee pot". Jokes, tall tales, and true stories are welcome as long as they are clean and in good taste. I only ask that you steer away from topics on religion or politics. Go ahead and pull up a chair and pour yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy the conversation.

Thumbs up Happy Birthday 2-8

Although there has been Scouting in America for a bit longer, today is the 100th birthday of the Boy Scouts of America! The BSA is in full celebration with a year long schedule of centennial events. They have launched a website for scouting alumni.

If you have ever been involved in scouting check in and be counted. If you are involved now as an adult leader, even if just as a Tiger partner thanks for your service to our nations youth! I know there are a bunch of our membership active.

Scouting is one of the few organizations that has remained true to its principles through the years. Hopefully it will continue to weather the assaults on it by political correctness.

I spent several years as a Pack Committee Chairman, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Scoutmaster. I would not trade those experiences for anything.

I was on the eagle board (the guys that interview and conduct the boards of review for those young men earning their eagles.) in out district for about ten years, I enjoyed it very much. I have also been the scoutmaster, committee chair and a venture leader. My son was the Lodge chief and Meteu for 3 years so I stayed out of the order to allow him to be who he was.

Scouting gave me the excuse to learn to white water canoe and do a ton of backpacking and camping under all conditions.

I would not have missed for for anything.

even today, i'll use techniques i learned in scouting and people will look in amazement wondering aloud "where'd you learn to do that?" there wasn't anything my scoutmaster couldn't do in the outdoors. i watch these survivorman shows and kind of chuckle. we used to joke that we could drop our scoutmaster into the middle of nowhere with a hand axe and a pocket knife and he'd have no trouble surviving for as long as necessary. congrats to the BSA.
