    What ever happened to.....

Jim Frye's check in reminded me of several other folks from the early days.

    What ever happened to:
    Sawduster
Ray Lancon (spelled wrong I think)
    Ed62
    Jim Boyd
    Dave in Cairns
    Norm in Fujino
    Atilla the Hun
    Woodnut (last visit 4-2012)
    Dud
    Ken Able
    Don Hart

    There were many more.

Could be wrong, but I think Sawduster passed away a year or so ago.

He did. I still email and talk to Lonnie occassionaly. They were good friends and co-workers before they retired.

Dave in Cairns had to give up the custom shop and went to work for someone else doing commercial work several years ago. He did some amazing work.

I was wondering about Jim Boyd, too.

        I miss Sarge too.

Might consider sending out a mass email to the members who haven't stopped by in a while. VB has a way to send an email out to them all.

I too, have wondered about Dud, The last time a heard about him, he wasn't doing too well. I considered him a good friend and am worried about his current state of health.
          Anybody know anything about him.

Well, I've been out of the shop for a good while now. So I haven't been around for a some time, buit I do check out the site every so often.

I'm pretty sure Ray Lancon (correct spelling) can be found on Facebook. it's been a while since I've heard from him though.

If I'm not mistaken, Dave went through a pretty bad divorce, and kind of faded away from the forums.

I think Norm posted on this site a year or two ago.

Has anyone heard anything about Ken Able? I haven't heard from him since the Ryobi forum was going.

It's good to know Jim Fry is still around. I knew some of these guys from the Ryobi forum, but they might not remember me.

I had heard about Dave. Norm did start posting again for a short time a year ago. Last I heard Jim Boyd was real active turning so may still be on some turning forum. I prolly also heard about Sawduster but you know how it goes with memory, most days I'm lucky if I remember my own name. I'm sure many of the old crowd moved on to other hobbies for some reason or another and I'm sure some have passed.

look at some of the relative new members we have now that are quickly becoming old names.... dbhost for example. It is the nature of forums folks come and go. Often when they go it is sudden in a fading way rather than dramatic.

I miss Don Hart, when I joined he was one of the member's that gave me the positive spin that this site is known for.

How can I forget? He asked more questions making up his mind to buy a Ryobi saw than most members make after they buy one. I'm pretty sure he passed. He was getting on in his years when he was posting and had some health issues IIRC.

If you re-sort the member's list by posts and look through the first two pages you would be surprised to see who's left from the most active posters.

A full third of the top posters are no longer active:
                      name and year joined
                      crokett 03
                      uncle cracker 07
                      Larry G 04
                      Monte 02
                      Cgallery 04
                      Mater 04
                      Jeffrey Schronce 05
                      Ken Massingale 02
                      etc.

Some of the names were not familiar to me and I have haunted this place for over 6 years. The loss of prolific posters in my opinion diminishes the community. Most of these folks had over 3k posts, the daily quips, tips and tricks, rants etc. that make up our daily content.
I miss uncle crackers' jokes, cgallery's ideas - one of which was his gift to the woodworking world at large, his thien filter (thanks Phil!!), crokett's perspective on techniques, Jeffrey sharing a mag. with me that got me hooked on Woodworking Magazine, etc. I approach page 1 now as well, I hope my time here has helped some folks too.

+1. I agree. There are some that left due to disagreements with other members or Moderators. It's unfortunate that happens. Some of those members became more than just online friends and forum contributors, sharing life's ups and downs in emails and PM's. I'd like to add RayintheUK to that list.

I hope you're incorrect and he hasn't passed yet but my gut tells me you're not. I always enjoyed silverfox's posts, real name Mike Welch. We got to know each other a little better off forum and came to find out that we grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same schools although he was about 10 years older than I. He moved to a community about 60 miles away so if he did pass I doubt if I would have known about it. I did send him several PM's over the past few years but all went unanswered. Mike was a true character but above all he was always a gentleman.
