    Workbench

Here is my first major project for my shop. I built this project mostly out of necessity. I had a bunch of small tools laying around the shop on shelves in a pile. Drawers were the perfect fix. Also, I needed a workbench. In the past I would just work off of the floor or on a piece of plywood set up on sawhorses.

The workbench is made loosely off of the Norm bench (see folding extension/storage area). I actually drew up the plans myself to fit in my half of the garage. LOML uses the other half to park her car. Some of the features of the bench are adjustable legs which can be adjusted from the top after the bench is in place. The folding extension which provides extra workspace when needed. A storage area with a future adjustable shelf (I ran out of wood ).

All in all, I am pleased with the workbench so far.

Can't wait to get started on my next project .

Nice bench, Mark. Looks like you've gotten a lot of storage! Will you be installing a vise on the front left part of the bench top? Will you be copying Norm's router insert for the fold-up extension, or just using it as a bench?

Nice looking workbench Mark. I like the way you have the folding extension. Great job.

Dlminehart I was planning on installing a vise on the left hand corner, just haven't found one I like in the price range yet. I was thinking in the future of making the fold out table into a router table too, just need to get some ideas together on how I would like to build that.

As a side note, I made the table the same height as my table saw, so the bench and extension double as infeed and outfeed supports. Works great.

          Thanks for the comments guys.

            Mark,

I've got Norm's design in my shop. Yours is much improved. The drawers will be more useful than his open cabinets. You've made it a bit shorter than Norm's which is good. His design turns into a space hog, particularly when woodworking. That fold-out part is [u]very</u> useful, allowing you to walk almost all the way around the workpiece, but not consuming space in the shop until needed.

            Looks great!

That folding extension is pretty neat. You'll get a lot of good use out of that bench.

Great workbench. Looks very solid, and I like the folding extension, too.

Looks good as well as funtional, Mark. I might suggest the addition of some hardboard on the top. When it gets beat up, it is a simple matter to remove a few screws and replace it.

You're going to love all that storage space. No matter how big the shop, there is never enough places to store the tools.

Very nice bench. The folding extension is giving some ideas for building my own workbench.
